To honor Dr. Simone’s vision and leadership in creating a shared governance system at RIT, Staff Council has compiled a brief history titled, “RIT Staff Council – The First Fifteen Years”. This is dedicated to Dr. Albert J. Simone, eighth president of Rochester Institute of Technology, whose vision of and belief in shared governance created a “place at the table” for RIT Staff. On September 21, 2006, Dr. Simone disseminated to the executive committees of the governance groups an article published in the journal Academe that concerned “Rankism.” The RIT Staff Council (RSC) Executive Committee then charged the RSC Institute Issues & Policies Committee -- a standing committee -- to look into this. The charge included collecting feedback from constituents, identifying trends, and recommending possible solutions. To read their report click here.

On September 7th, Mr. Michael Morely and Mr. Donald Boyce from the RIT Board of Trustees returned to Staff Council to discuss the search process for a new president for RIT and to request feedback to assist them in understanding what the campus wants from the new president for RIT. President Simone, along with leaders from Acadmic Senate and Staff Council and the Interim Chief Diversity Officer welcomed the campus community to the new academic year in the Gordon Field House and Activities Center. On July 20th, Staff Council held its annual retreat to discuss plans of work for the various committees for the coming year. It was a very productive day concluding with a visit from Patty Spinelli, Assistant Vice President - Human Resources.

At the Staff Council meeting on June 8th, the group elected the new officers for the 06/07 academic year they are:
Kurt Ingerick - Chair; Sandra Woodruff Whitmore - Vice Chair; Fran Chinnock - Treasurer; Julia Lisuzzo - Communications Officer. To round out the Executive Committee, Paul Smarsh, Jan DiCaro, Cheryl Williams and Nicole Boulais were elected as members at large. In addition, Thomastine Sarchet, Dina Stier and Rick Barnard were elected as Staff Council representatives to Institute Council (IC) and Betty Santiago, Rona Skinner, Kathy Hall, Annette Fagan and Mike Dwyer were elected as alternate representatives to IC.

On May 31st, Staff Council, along with President Simone, hosted the 10th annual staff appreciation picnic and first annual car display. Thank you to all the volunteers who made the day a great success, to President Simone for sponsoring the day and a special thanks to Bob Howie for all the work in putting together that AMAZING car display! Hopefully, this will become an annual tradition.
